Entries from May 2008
In the last week I have learned that:
- My uncle died. He was 75 and a wonderful, wonderful man – kind and very funny. When he was sober. Which wasn’t often.
- One of my nieces, who is married with two kids, with a seemingly rock-solid marriage is getting divorced.
- Another niece, who, let’s just say, is “not the sharpest knife in the drawer” and is only 20 years old, is now pregnant with baby number two. By two different fathers. She ran away with father #2 and got married. No one dares to tell grandma (my mother).
- My friend in Iraq was in a helicopter that took 9 bullets. He is OK. Scared, but OK.
Holy crap! What a week!
And it is only Wednesday.
Still no word on my dad’s MRI results. I really hate waiting.
And how are things with you?

If I had time (i.e made time) to post, here are some things about which I would write:
- Seven years ago this weekend was the last time I saw my sister alive.
- Three years ago this weekend I took a pregnancy test and saw two blue lines.
- I received Jen Lemen’s zine and it is so freaken cool I can’t tell you. I want to get a copy for every little girl I know. I hope she does a second printing. As of this writing she has 4 left. If you didn’t get a copy yet, GO GET ONE NOW!
- Per his CT scan, my dad has an “irregularity” on his pancreas. On Thursday, he had an MRI scan. We are waiting for results. The weird thing is that they have basically told him that no matter what it is they won’t treat it because he’s 85. It seems weird to me that the medical community would say “yeah, you’ve lived long enough.”
- Four of my friends are pregnant right now. Happily, I am happy for each of them and not a bit jealous. I am a bit jealous of Compartment 14B. I still adore her and wish her all the best and every happiness. It’s just that our first babies had the same due date and now her second baby is due and I have STILL not even resumed my period and feel a little left behind. But, who knows – maybe I will ovulate before my first period. Maybe I am pregnant right now. Weirder things have happened. Anyway, I am very, very, very happy for her, and only the tiniest bit jealous.
- The Girl has started the “why” stage, except that it is not “why” it is “because.” Everything I say, she says “because?” So far I have resisted saying “because I said so.” But I know it is coming.
- A hilarious story about Norman and home improvement.
- And probably a whole bunch of other things I am not remembering.
But, my husband and my baby are here and want to play, and so I will. Have a wonderful memorial day everyone.

Your chance to get the very, very cool zine by Jen Lemen is on sale now! She had 350 copies and as I write this she only has 94 left. The story is amazing, so even if you don’t buy a copy (only $10 USD!!) check out the story.
It’s about girl power, and hope, and love, and magic. Trust me on this, check out Jen’s blog and story about how she is going to Africa on a wing and a prayer to change the lives of young girls.
Go, Jen, GO!!
